School Staffs Gather

Staffs of the Primary and Secondary Catholic schools in the Ballarat region gathered in St. Patrick’s Cathedral at 8.45am on Tuesday, 29th January to mark the commencement of the school year with a Mass celebrated by Bishop Connors.

New School Year Begins

School began this week for 16,000 primary and secondary students across the Diocese of Ballarat.  Fifty three primary and eleven secondary schools opened their doors for the arrival of the 2008 students.

A Sad Farewell

A huge crowd of mourners who filled every nook and cranny of Ballarat's St Patrick's Cathedral on Tuesday, January 8 to farewell respected teacher, sportsman and family man Stephen James Haintz. The Cathedral overflowed with family, friends and associates of the 46-year-old Ballarat school principal who died suddenly on January 3 while holidaying with his family at Indented Heads.

Launch of Project Compassion

Ash Wednesday not only marks the start of Lent, but it again will witness the launch of Caritas Australia's annual awareness and fundraising campaign, Project Compassion. Materials for participating are available from all parishes. The theme for this year's campaign is "Just want justice - a call to action".

Only 166 Days to Go!

The momentum and excitement is growing as we journey towards World Youth Day 2008. It is now under 6 months until the final Mass of the biggest gathering of youth in the world and the world is preparing to be in Sydney in 2008.

Prior to the WYD week many groups will spend time in a diocese outside of Sydney preparing for World Youth Day and encountering the local area and people.  Many groups have expressed an interest in coming to Ballarat and are preparing to be here.  They come from all parts of the world.

Appointment of Timboon Parish Coordinator

Bishop Connors has announced the appointment of Sr. Noreen Ryan RSM as the Parish Coordinator for the Timboon Parish.Sr. Noreen, a member of the Ballarat East Mercy Congregation, has been the Parish Pastoral Associate in St James Parish, Sebastopol for the past 18 years.
