Mission Fair Day always begins with Mass, where we celebrated kindness, and a $2 donation from the students for the privilege of wearing “casual clothes” for the day.  At times, the inconvenience of finding $2, especially in this “cashless society” that we find ourselves in, seems too much.   If each member of our community brings $2, we have already raised over $1000 dollars which can go to our Missions.

Of course, our Fair day is designed to do more than raise funds,  it is also important that awareness is raised regarding the reasons why we do what we do. Our Catholic Social Teachings tell us that the Life and Dignity of the Human Person is something that we must strive for, and it is incumbent on us to give Preferential Option for the Poor. Our day is designed to ensure we follow both of these principles closely.

Funds raised are all dispersed throughout the twelve months across multiple organisations, including St Vincent de Paul, Caritas Australia, other emergencies as they happen (e.g., the floods) and of course, the MSC Missions Office. We focus mainly on the Catholic organisations but can and have donated to other worthy causes when required.

Mission Fair Day was very successful, the College community dug deep in order to help those less fortunate than ourselves.  The money has been counted and over $8000 was raised – a fantastic effort from our community. Thank you to everyone who made this such a positive day.
