Pope Francis has called for a ‘Day of Prayer for Peace’ on Tuesday 20 September 2016. The theme of the day is ‘Thirst for peace: faiths and cultures in dialogue’.
To mark the occasion, the Holy Father will visit Assisi, Italy. There will be a moment of silence in memory of the victims of war, an appeal for peace will be signed with representatives of other religions and candles lit followed by the exchange of a sign of peace.
You are invited to take a moment to pray for peace on this day. Below is the peace prayer to St Francis of Assisi.
Peace Prayer to St Francis of Assisi
Lord, make me an instrument of your peace,
Where there is hatred, let me sow love;
where there is injury, pardon;
where there is doubt, faith;
where there is despair, hope;
where there is darkness, light;
where there is sadness, joy;
O Divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console;
to be understood as to understand;
to be loved as to love.
For it is in giving that we receive;
it is in pardoning that we are pardoned;
and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.
