Unite Against Poverty this Lent
Jane, Fran & Julie from the Pastoral Ministry Office signed-up for the Long Walk for Water fundraiser this Lent and with just a few days to go, encourage you to donate.
Below is their story:
When we saw that Caritas had introduced The Long Walk for Water as part of their Project Compassion campaign, we thought this is something we could do to for Lent and help raise funds to support people living in poverty. Initially, Jane was just going to do it and then asked Julie and Fran to be part of the team. Our walking challenge is 30 minutes a day for forty days and our fundraising task was S300. We have exceeded that amount already.
Jane said, ‘The walking is going well. At this point we have been walking when it suits us individually, but we are working on a couple of days to walk as a team and invite other staff members along. The weather has greatly assisted us as the days are beautiful to be out walking. Hopefully, that continues throughout Lent.”
We felt that The Long Walk for Water is a great initiative by Caritas as many walking challenges focus on distances covered and not everyone has the time or the ability to do that. With The Long Walk for Water, we decided on what our challenge looked like and then committed to that for the 40 days of Lent.
We just want to help vulnerable communities access clean drinking water, to assist Caritas to provide support and resources to people living in poverty to help build a better future.
